Hi! I’m Laura, and a very warm welcome to Laura Anne’s Bakehouse!
I’m the baker, social media manager, website builder, head of marketing, and the human behind the Bakehouse!
Our story
Two large contributors that have inspired me and my love for food are my family and travelling.
With being of eastern European and Irish heritage, food was always been at the centre of our home.
Strong memories that I have are of Ukrainian Easter lunches at my great-grandparents home, with my favourite part of the meal being the fresh paska bread.
Other very fond memories I have are of cooking and baking with my Lithuanian grandparents on countless occasions, from making homemade barley soup, potato pancakes, my Grammy’s beloved apple cake, crepes, and many Lithuanian dishes. (My grandfather was a chef, so I firmly believe the passion for food runs in my veins.)
I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to travel extensively in my teens and 20’s.
It was especially during my time living in England that I became very passionate about cooking with fresh, local ingredients and gained a strong interest in homesteading.
Fast forward to November 2020, I had the pleasure of baking my first ever loaf of sourdough bread and batch of bagels with my sister-in-law. I was (dough) hooked, and became enthralled by the ancient art of bread making. I baked for myself and my family throughout 2021; I gained confidence in my newly-learned skill and learned about different grains, flours, and became conscious of how our food is grown and where it comes from.
In February of 2022 I was deeply saddened by the devastation in Ukraine and the damaging effect that it had on the animals. Wanting to help in any way I could, I began raising money for animal rescues and shelters in Ukraine by selling my bread and bagels. I was absolutely overcome by support and love and managed to raise almost $2000. I received so much encouragement to keep baking, and thus, Laura Anne’s Bakehouse was born! I turned a hobby into what is now my passion and livelihood, and I’m so glad that I did.
Starting January 2025, I’ll be featuring an animal rescue organisation, shelter, or individual each month, along with animals in need of rehoming here on the website as well as on my social media pages, with 5% of each New York-style bagel order going towards to these wonderful causes. I will include a donation link to each organisation so if you would like to add a separate donation, that would be so welcome and appreciated!
I am very proud to say that all of my breads and bagels are carefully made by hand and are baked fresh-to-order, always. My ability to create and bake in small batches allows me to have precision and a keen attention to detail in all of my products, down to the last sesame seed. An exciting new component that I have been able to add to my business is using fresh flour. I mill whole grains in-house which produces lovely, rustic flours that are then used in some of my products.
A lot of new ideas, recipes, and exciting ventures are coming to the Bakehouse, the best way to stay up-to-date is to follow us on social media.
Thank you so much for joining me on this journey and supporting my business and passions; I cannot wait to share my baked goods with you!
